Quality is reduced to approach the target size; dimensions may also be reduced. Transparent JPG areas use the selected background color. Animated WebP is saved as its first frame only.

How to use

  1. 01

    Choose the image

Load a supported image and note its original byte size and pixel dimensions.

  2. 02

    Set a practical target

Choose a target size, output format and any dimension limit. A lower quality or smaller image may be needed for a tight limit.

  3. 03

    Compare detail and bytes

Reopen the result. Inspect text and edges as well as file size; a smaller result is useful only if it remains readable.

Frequently asked questions

Is the target size guaranteed?

No. Image complexity, dimensions and output format can prevent the target from being reached. Use the actual saved byte count.

Can PNG and JPG behave differently?

Yes. JPG uses lossy compression. PNG is often larger for detailed photographs, even when both images have the same dimensions.

Does a smaller file keep metadata?

Do not rely on camera metadata or file structure being preserved. Keep the source if those details matter.

Important information

Tool files and calculation inputs are processed in your browser, without uploading them to a processing server.

Keep original files and reopen downloaded results before replacing a working copy.

Tested example

Input and settings

A synthetic 240 × 120px PNG

Observed result

What to check

Compare target KB with actual bytes. A smaller output is not guaranteed.
